Star Battle
How to play
Place exactly one star in every row, every column and every outlined region. Stars cannot touch, even diagonally. Stars farther apart on the same diagonal are allowed.
Choose Star and tap a square to place a star. Tap again to clear it. Mark crosses out a square; Erase clears either kind of choice. The small numbers name the eight regions. Their thick borders show each region without relying on colour.
You can finish without crossing out every unused square. These boards use the one-star 8 × 8 variant; size is not a difficulty rating.
Keyboard: Tab to the board, arrows to move, Enter or Space to use the selected action. X marks a square empty; Delete or Backspace clears it. Ctrl/Cmd+Z undoes; Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z or Ctrl/Cmd+Y redoes.
Progress saves in this browser when local storage is available. It does not sync between devices. Undo and redo history lasts for this session.
Stuck?
A star rules out its whole row, column and region, as well as the eight touching squares. Look for a row, column or region with only one place left for its star.
Hint checks your current stars and marks. It explains a constraint or a proved contradiction; Apply hint makes the suggested move separately. A contradiction means a current choice needs clearing or undoing. A search limit means no move was proved within the hint budget.
Hints and reveals mark the puzzle as assisted. Reveal replaces the board with the complete solution after confirmation.
